Previewing Output in a Browser

After a job deploys its output, you can open the deployed site in your browser without leaving ePublisher AutoMap. Where Explore Output opens the deployed files — a folder, or the Amazon S3 console — Preview Output in Browser opens the deployed site itself.

To preview deployed output

  1. Start ePublisher AutoMap.

  2. Select the job whose output you want to preview in the ePublisher AutoMap main window.

  3. On the Job menu, click Preview Output in Browser, and then select the output you want to open. You can also right-click the job to reach the same command.

A job that publishes lists one entry for each target that deploys. A composition job lists its single destination. A target that the job does not generate is listed as (not generated) and cannot be selected.

For a Folder destination, ePublisher AutoMap opens the entry document directly from the deployment folder. For an Amazon S3 destination, it works out a usable address when you click: the CloudFront distribution's domain when the destination has a distribution ID, otherwise the bucket's static website endpoint, otherwise the direct address of the entry document in a public bucket. Each candidate is checked before the browser opens.

Note: This is a preview, not necessarily the address your readers use. Custom domains and content delivery configuration live outside ePublisher, so a production URL can differ. When no address can be worked out, ePublisher AutoMap reports which attempts failed and why rather than reporting a bare error.

A target that deploys only its content groups has no site entry page of its own by design, so there is nothing to preview for that target alone. Preview the composition job for that destination instead, or deploy a shell there. For more information, see Federated Parcel Composition.
