Create and manage an Assistant

Creating an Assistant takes one click. Its name, description, avatar and conversation starters are what visitors see when they open the chat.

Create and name an Assistant

  1. In AI Assistants, click Create Assistant. The Assistant opens on its Configure tab as Untitled Assistant.

  2. Under Assistant Details, type a Name.

  3. Type a Description of what the Assistant is for.

  4. Click Save Changes.

The Assistant appears in AI Assistants with its Assistant ID. The Embedded Assistant shows the name and description at the top of its panel, and Preview shows them in an empty chat. To change either later, edit it and click Save Changes.

A new Assistant starts with these settings:

Setting

Starts at

Model and Reasoning

GPT-5.4 Mini, with reasoning Off

Daily budget

A budget per day, shown in the field, that keeps answering on the free model when it is reached

Per-visitor message limit

30 messages per 6 hours

Instructions, Knowledge Base, Origin Domains

In Deployment

Next, write its Instructions. See Write an Assistant's Instructions.

Give it an avatar

  1. Under Assistant Details, click Upload beside Avatar.

  2. Choose a PNG, JPG or WebP image.

The Platform crops the image to a centered square and saves it at once, without Save Changes. The avatar appears beside the Assistant's answers, in the AI Assistants list and in both installs. Without one, the chat shows the first letter of the name.

To change the avatar, click Replace. To go back to the letter, click Remove.

Add conversation starters

Conversation starters are questions an empty chat offers the visitor. In the Embedded Assistant, picking one sends it; in Preview, it fills in the message box.

  1. Under Conversation Starters, type a question in the empty field.

  2. Type each further question in the field that appears below, up to four.

  3. Click Save Changes.

To remove one, click the × beside it, then click Save Changes.

Delete an Assistant

Deleting an Assistant can't be undone. Its settings, Knowledge Base, imported websites and Preview conversations go with it, and every website and help set that uses its Assistant ID stops getting answers.

  1. On the Configure tab, go to Other Assistant Actions.

  2. Click Delete Assistant.

  3. In Delete this assistant?, click Delete Assistant.

The AI Assistants list opens without it. Charges it has already made stay in the organization's billing activity.

To stop an Assistant answering visitors and keep everything else, take it out of deployment instead. See Put an Assistant in deployment.
