Limit messages per visitor
A per-visitor limit caps how many messages one visitor can send the Assistant in a time window, so no single visitor can run up its usage. It applies on every install and on the free model too. Preview is never limited.
In AI Assistants, open the Assistant.
On the Configure tab, go to Per-visitor message limit.
Clear Unlimited (no per-visitor limit).
In Messages per visitor, enter how many messages one visitor may send.
In Per time window, choose 1 hour, 6 hours or 24 hours.
Click Save Changes.
The limit applies to visitors' next messages. To remove it, check Unlimited (no per-visitor limit) and save. With Messages per visitor left blank, the save keeps the limit you had.
A new Assistant starts at 30 messages per 6 hours. An older Assistant can start with no limit at all, so check its setting.
How visitors are counted
A visitor's window opens with their first message and lasts the time you chose. When it ends, their count starts again.
Every message the visitor sends counts.
Visitors are told apart by browser. A browser that can't be identified is counted by its network address, so everyone behind that address shares one limit.
Browsers that share a network address also share a combined ceiling, a multiple of the limit.
What a visitor sees at the limit
The Assistant answers the visitor's next message with You've reached the message limit for now. Please come back later to continue.
The Embedded Assistant also says how long until the visitor can continue and keeps its message box closed until then. When its Language isn't English, it shows the message in that language. See Messages visitors see.
