Cap an Assistant's daily spend
A daily budget caps what one Assistant spends on visitors' answers each day, in dollars. When it is reached, the Assistant keeps answering on the free model or pauses until 00:00 UTC, whichever you choose. Preview is never affected.
In AI Assistants, open the Assistant.
On the Configure tab, go to Daily budget.
Clear Unlimited (no daily cap).
In Budget per day, enter the most the Assistant may spend in a day.
Under When the daily budget is reached, choose Keep answering on the free model or Pause public chat until the next day.
Click Save Changes.
The budget applies from the next question. To remove the cap, check Unlimited (no daily cap) and save. With Budget per day left blank, the save keeps the budget you had.
A new Assistant starts with a budget, shown in the field, and keeps answering on the free model when it is reached.

The day runs from 00:00 to 24:00 UTC. The budget is checked before each question, so the answer that crosses it is finished and charged, and the day's spend can end a little above the budget.

The budget caps one Assistant. The organization's credits are separate: when they run out, every Assistant answers on the free model, whatever its budget. See Credits.

The email goes once that day to the organization's Billing email, under Settings > Organization.
Paid answers resume at 00:00 UTC, or as soon as you raise the budget and save. Answers on the free model count toward the organization's daily limit on free answers; past it, the Assistant pauses until 00:00 UTC whichever you chose. See The free model.
