Test an Assistant in Preview

Preview is a chat with the Assistant inside the Platform. It answers with the settings you are editing, before you save them, and it costs nothing within the organization's daily preview allowance. It needs no Origin Domains and no deployment, so you can test an Assistant before any visitor can reach it.

Ask a question

  1. In AI Assistants, open the Assistant.

  2. Select the Preview tab. In a wide window, Preview is the pane beside Configure.

  3. Type a question in the message box, or click a conversation starter to fill it in.

  4. Press Enter, or click Send.

The answer streams in. Shift+Enter starts a new line instead of sending.

What it shows

A number in brackets, such as [1]

A passage from the Knowledge Base the text drew on. Point to it or click it to highlight its file.

File names with a link icon

The Knowledge Base files the answer cites. An answer without them cites nothing from the Knowledge Base.

The figure with a coin icon

What writing the answer costs at the rates it is billed in deployment

A summary above the answer, while it is written

The model's reasoning, when Reasoning is on

The coin figure covers the answer only. The question is billed too, so a turn costs a little more than the figure. On the free model the figure is what the answer would have cost; nothing is charged.

What Preview costs

Preview answers draw on the organization's daily preview allowance, which every Assistant and every member share and which is refilled at 00:00 UTC. The Daily preview allowance bar above the message box shows how much of today's is used. Once it can't cover an answer, the rest of the day's preview answers are billed like other usage. See Daily preview allowance.

When the organization can't pay for an answer, Preview answers on the free model and says so above the message box. It says so too when the Assistant's Model is the free option.

Start over

Preview keeps your conversation when you save and when you come back later, and each person in the organization has their own. Earlier questions shape later answers, so start a new conversation before you test a change:

  1. Click Clear Chat, the arrow at the bottom left of the message box.

The cited files are listed under the answer

The daily budget, the per-visitor message limit and the daily limit on free answers apply

None of them applies

Once the Assistant is in deployment, ask a few questions from the pages where visitors will ask them. See Test answers with a question list.
