Set an Assistant's Origin Domains

An Assistant in deployment answers only on pages whose domain is one of its Origin Domains, so no other site can spend your organization's credits. Enter the domain of every site that shows the Assistant: your website, the site that serves your Reverb 2.0 help, or both.

Add a domain

  1. In AI Assistants, open the Assistant.

  2. On the Configure tab, go to Origin Domains.

  3. Type the domain in the empty field. Enter the host name only, such as example.com, with no https://, port or path.

  4. Type any other domain in the next empty field.

  5. Click Save Changes.

When the header shows Up to date, the list is in effect.

An Assistant can have up to 50 Origin Domains. A full list has no empty field: click the × beside a domain you no longer need, then type the new domain in the field it empties. An entry covers every subdomain of its domain, so one entry can take the place of several. See What an entry covers.

Remove a domain

Click the × beside the domain, then click Save Changes.

What an entry covers

An entry covers its domain and every subdomain of it. Letter case, http or https, and the port make no difference.

Entry

Covers

Doesn't cover

example.com

example.com, www.example.com, docs.example.com

example.org, myexample.com

docs.example.com

docs.example.com, v2.docs.example.com

example.com, www.example.com

To keep the Assistant off the rest of a site, list only the subdomain it belongs on. Don't enter wildcards: *.example.com matches nothing, and example.com already covers its subdomains.

Entries that can't be saved

Save Changes is refused, and none of the Configure settings in that save are stored, when an entry:

  • includes a protocol, port or path, such as https://example.com, example.com:8080 or example.com/help

  • is localhost, or ends in .localhost, .local, .internal, .test, .example or .invalid

  • is a loopback, private or link-local IP address

The banner at the top of the Configure tab names the entry, for example "localhost" is not usable here. Correct or remove the entry and save again.

To try the Assistant before it is on a public site, use the Preview tab. Preview doesn't depend on Origin Domains.

What else Origin Domains decide

Area

Rule

Deployment

An Assistant needs at least one Origin Domain to go into deployment. If a deployed Assistant loses its last domain, it stays in deployment, answers on no site, and the In Deployment section lists the unmet requirement. See Put an Assistant in deployment.

Website import

Only a website on one of these domains can be imported, and the importer reads no other host. See Import a website.

Links in answers

In the Embedded Assistant, an answer keeps a link only when the address is in the Assistant's knowledge or on one of these domains. See Links and sources in answers.
