Add the Embedded Assistant to a website

One script tag puts the Embedded Assistant on a page: a button that opens a chat panel, loaded only when a visitor opens it. The tag carries the Assistant's ID, so copy it from the Assistant rather than typing it.

Before you start

Add the tag

  1. In AI Assistants, open the Assistant and select the Install tab.

  2. Under Any website, click Copy.

  3. Paste the tag before the closing </body> tag of every page that should show the Assistant, or once in the layout your pages share.

  4. Publish the pages.

A page needs the tag once; a second copy of the same Assistant's tag is ignored. Appearance and language changes made later reach visitors without a new tag.

Check it

  1. On the Install tab, Before it answers visitors should end with Ready, followed by the domains the Assistant answers on.

  2. Open one of your pages. An Ask a question button appears at the bottom right. On a narrow screen it shows only its icon.

  3. Click it and ask a question.

If the button doesn't appear, see The Assistant doesn't appear or doesn't answer.

What visitors get

Part

What it does

The panel's header

Shows the Assistant's avatar, or its initial, with its name and description.

An empty conversation

Opens with your welcome text, if you set one, and the Assistant's conversation starters.

Each question

Goes with the address, title and main text of the page the visitor is on, so visitors can ask about that page.

Each answer

Links only to addresses in the Assistant's knowledge or on its Origin Domains, and lists the imported pages it used in a Sources row. See Links and sources in answers.

Moving between pages

The panel stays open on the next page of your site if it was open on this one.

Conversations

Earlier conversations, kept in the visitor's browser.

The panel's colors, welcome text and language are yours to set. See Set the Embedded Assistant's appearance and language.
